The Fraudulent Measles Epidemic?
By Janine Roberts - >
Questions are being raised about a most
urgent warning sent out to doctors and the parents of 8 million
children by the UK Department of Health, saying "definitely" there
would be a measles epidemic in 1995 that would infect between 100,000
and 200,000 children and that "around 50 children, mostly of
secondary school age, would die" - that is, if children of between 5
and 15 were not revaccinated.
New research indicates that there might
have been a very different story behind this campaign: Doctor Richard
Nicholson, the editor of the Bulletin of Medical Ethics stated ,after
studying all government reports, that there was no proof that such a
major measles epidemic was about to start - and that: "there was no
justification for the concomitant rubella immunisation" as the risk
from rubella was minimal to all but pregnant women. The official
statistics stated that 99% of teenage girls over 14 years of age were
at that time immune from rubella and were not at risk.
He alleged the government's estimate of up
to 50 deaths was based on "improper use of statistics and out of date
death rates was based on out of date statistics." - that effectively
the government was scare-mongering.
The Department of Health may also, he
suspects, have acted illegally in not calling for competitive tenders
for the £20 million pounds worth of vaccines used in this
campaign as the law required. The Department told me that normal
competitive procedures were followed but government contracting
databases clearly record that the procedure followed was "without a
call to competition" as legally stipulated. It claimed exemption from
this because of "extreme urgency brought about by events
unforeseeable". This campaign was carefully planned over many weeks.
The Department of Health's actions benefited 2 drug companies,
SmithKline Beecham and Merieux UK. Two years ago these companies
withdrew from circulation their measles, rubella and mumps vaccines
when the mumps element was associated with meningitis. This contract
reopened the market for their vaccines.
Parents were not warned of recent research
indicating vaccinations could be more dangerous than previously
thought. A painful bleeding disease known as thrombocytopenic
purpura, a "potentially serious disorder", was reported in the Lancet
in June to be 5 times more common as an after-effect than previously
thought. A recent British Medical Journal recommended that "antibody
status should be checked before immunisation" so that children do not
incur risks through unnecessary vaccination. No such checks are
currently carried out. A number of parents have reported their
children fell very serious ill shortly after being vaccinated and
that they, and their doctors, believe the vaccination either caused
or triggered serious illness in their children.
The Nursing Times this week expressed
concern that the government's plans to introduce s more multiple
vaccines to immunise for many illnesses with one injection. It
suggested this might be a disguised cost cutting move. It expressed a
fear that such injections might overload the immune system of some
children. One of those most angry about last years vaccination
campaign is a mother of a large family living in Essex. "Karen" was
extremely proud of her 12 year old son "Sam". He was "ridiculously
healthy, He never had anything wrong with him, a part from some mild
asthma, was doing well at school and loved football . He was an avid
Spurs fan."
"When she received notice of the November
inoculation campaign, she queried in writing whether it would be safe
for him given his asthma and one other of her children being somewhat
epileptic. She was told not to worry. Four weeks later, coming down
the stairs, his knees suddenly gave way and he tumbled down. He kept
on falling. Sometimes when I was talking to him he would suddenly go
blank. I accused him of being on drugs. Two months later we were in
Great Ormond Street Children's hospital where they tested him for
every disease. Then one doctor said to me: "Has he been exposed to
measles?". I said "No, he has never had measles." The doctor replied;
"No, I meant, has he had a recent measles injection?" Then I clicked.
All this had started after the vaccination.
I went down to visit Karen and Sam. He is
now in a wheelchair and has lost the power of speech. Nevertheless
his face was bright and attractive and he seemed to be enjoying life.
"On one of out last good days, he went down to see the Tottenham
Hotspur players. He had not so far gone then and the players were
wonderful with him.". His brain is now seriously deteriorating and
the prognosis is that he may slip into a coma and stay in it for
years before he dies. His mother has found her life turned into a
nightmare. She is constantly exhausted and scarcely has time to care
for her youngest. Their doctor supports her belief that the vaccine
was the cause of this disaster. Great Ormond Street Hospital has
expressed the belief that the vaccination triggered off his disease.
Karen finds herself uselessly blaming herself for letting him be
immunised. She believes she has already lost him.
The other mother I interviewed, Susan
Hamlyn, told me her son Francis had come down with down with juvenile
arthritis a month after being immunized. He could scarcely walk for
the pain. He is a chorister at Windsor Castle. She told me for months
he could not lift his trombone to play it. Her hospital consultant
has told her that the rubella vaccination was, it seems, to blame.
This was particularly unfortunate as naturally occurring rubella is a
mild and harmless disease for boys. His parents now question the whole
rationale for the vaccination campaigns.
However when I inquired of the Department
of Health about how many children were still seriously ill from the
after effects of the November immunisation campaign, their spokesman
insisted that no children at all are suffering today from any after
effects. The above mentioned children and medical opinions were
dismissed, it seems, as irrelevant.
Susan Hamlyn and her husband found
Virginia Bottomley less dogmatic. They wrote to her when she was the
Secretary of State for Health, via Sir George Young Bt. MP. She
replied admitting "there have been a small number of late onset and
longer lasting suspected adverse reactions that have occurred post MR
(Measles and Rubella) vaccination. It is of course of the utmost
importance that these be investigated." She mentioned "abnormality of
the joints ... is reported after rubella vaccination." She said that
the Medicines Control Agency were "following up many of the yellow
card reports of suspected adverse reactions."
Dr Nicholson was not so kind about
Virginia Bottomley. In the Bulletin of Medical Ethics he said it was
apparent that she "hoped to make political capital from the
campaign.. To recogise a threat to the nation's children and to take
decisive action ... could only improve her standing." She frequently
mentioned the campaign in speeches.
Jackie Fletcher, the secretary of JABS, a
support group of and for parents who have vaccine damaged children,
has received over 80 reports of alleged vaccine damage due to last
November's vaccination campaign. Her own son went down earlier with a
rare auto-immune disease immediately after an earlier vaccination and
is now permanently handicapped. Legal aid has already been granted to
investigate the feasibility of legal action for the parents of up to
40 children thought to be seriously damaged by earlier vaccinations.
It can be anticipated that further legal action will result from this
latest vaccination campaign.
